How Reddit keyword alerts work
Each run searches Reddit for every keyword in your alert, sorted by newest. It keeps only posts from the past day (or week), so you see each post once. New posts go to your Slack channel, one message each, with the keyword, the subreddit, the title and the link. Every post is also saved as JSON, CSV or Excel on Apify.
Three kinds of alert
- Brand mentions: your product and domain names. Reply to questions and complaints while the thread is active.
- Competitor mentions: each competitor, plus "alternative to [competitor]". These are people who may switch.
- Buying intent: "looking for a [category]" and similar phrases. These are people who ask for a tool like yours.
Keep the noise down
- Keep each keyword short. Reddit search is literal.
- Put names in quotes. Without quotes, Reddit also matches similar words: "HubSpot" finds posts about a hotspot.
- Add exclude words such as "hiring" or "job".
- On a paid Apify plan, turn on the AI filter. It marks each post with
wantsHelp(the author wants a product or service) and names the competitor.
