The TikTok engagement rate formulas
There are two common ways to measure engagement on TikTok. They answer different questions.
- By views: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views × 100. It tells you how strongly the people who saw a video reacted to it.
- By followers: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ followers × 100. It tells you how a video performed compared with the size of the account.
Some tools leave saves out because older TikTok versions did not show them. If you compare your number with a report, check which reactions it counts.
Benchmark bands
The calculator rates the views-based number with these bands. They are rules of thumb for a typical video, not a promise of reach.
| Band | Engagement rate by views |
|---|---|
| Low | 0% to 3% |
| Average | 3% to 6% |
| Good | 6% to 10% |
| Excellent | 10% and up |
Which reaction matters most
Likes are cheap, so they make up most of the total. Comments and shares take more effort and say more. A share rate above 1% usually means people send the video to friends, which is how videos travel beyond your followers. Saves show that people want to watch again or try what you showed.

Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate engagement rate on TikTok?
Add up likes, comments, shares and saves on a video, divide by its views and multiply by 100. A video with 48,200 views and 3,458 interactions has an engagement rate of 7.17%. Some agencies divide by followers instead. This calculator shows both.
Should I use views or followers?
Use views for single videos. TikTok shows most videos to people who do not follow the account, so views reflect who actually saw the post. Use followers when you compare creators for a campaign, because brands pay for audience size and want to know how much of it reacts.
What is a good engagement rate on TikTok?
Measured by views, most videos land between 3% and 6%. Over 6% is good and over 10% is excellent. Small accounts often score higher than large ones, and niches such as comedy or education behave differently, so compare against accounts of a similar size.
Why is my engagement rate by followers over 100%?
A video that reaches far beyond your followers can collect more interactions than you have followers. It is a sign the video went wide on the For You feed, not a mistake in the math.
How do I get the average engagement rate of a whole profile?
Calculate the rate for each of the last 20 to 30 videos and take the average, leaving out pinned videos. To skip the copying, run the TikTok Scraper on the profile. It returns views, likes, comments, shares and saves for every video as a spreadsheet, with no TikTok login.
Do you store the numbers I enter?
No. The math runs in your browser. Nothing you type leaves this page.
